More exports than Statistics Iceland shows
Inconsistency between Statistics Iceland, and France's customs officials concerning export numbers. According to information from the Icelandic Embassy in Paris, it is likely that exports to France are greater than Statistics Iceland (Iceland's Bureau of Statistics) reports.
According to information from Statistics Iceland, it seems as though exports to France have decreased in the percentage of total products exported from Iceland. The embassy, on the other hand, has pointed out a significant difference between Statistics Iceland numbers and the French custom authorities' numbers on this matter. This comes from Monday's business newsletter Stiklum. According to information from French custom officials, Icelandic exports have amounted to between $113,000,000 and $143,000,000 a year since 1997.
Unnur Orradottir Ramette, a business representative at the Icelandic Embassy in Paris, stated that a large portion of fish products exported to Europe clear customs at the freezing plant trade center in Rotterdam and because of this, it is likely that they are registered in Holland. Statistics Iceland supports this hypothesis. In addition to fish products, it is possible that even aluminum and ferro silicone products sold to Holland, Belgium and Great Britain are confusing export statistics. (Vidskiptabladid)
